Here is a little catch up with all things Briana...
* The Saturday before last, we went to Briana's friend Dylan's 2nd birthday party. You all know how much my girl loves a good party. Here are a few pics from the day.
* I signed Briana up on Tuesday morning for preschool in the fall (it starts in August). She will be going on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 - 1. Oh my gosh, what am I going to do with actual free time in the morning? I don't know what that feels like anymore!
* Last Wednesday, Briana had her speech evaluation with Babies Can't Wait. Good news - Briana passed her speech evaluation with flying colors. The therapist would point to pictures in a book and Briana had no problem saying what the pictures were. In fact, the therapist pointed to a scissors in the book and Briana said "scissors". The therapist looked up at me and said, "I am going to finish this, but um, she's not going to be needing help from us." She thought she was right on target and since she had not heard English until she was one year old, she felt she had caught up very fast. She also said that Briana would most likely be saying sentences very soon. I have to say that in the four weeks between the first evaluation and the second one, Briana has greatly improved in her speech. I can breathe a little sigh of relief now.
* Briana is still loving her gymnastics class. She waves to me from afar every so often, but she doesn't need my help. Sniff...
* I already filled you all in on Briana's first haircut. I did keep a snip of her hair. I will put it in a book - some day.
* Briana is doing so much better in story time at the library. I was getting a little frustrated for a while because Bri seemed to want to cruise the room rather than participate in the activities. In the last few weeks, she dances and sings and listens to the stories like a champ. She is usually in the front row of kids. I am hoping this is a precursor for preschool.
* I think we are officially cold free now. Bri and I started our colds on Tuesday and Doug started his on Thursday. Being sick royally stinks...
* I am slowly working on potty-training. I actually tried to put Briana in panties on Friday just to see what would happen. Let's just say it didn't go well. I had to clean up several accidents. Things are still not clicking for her yet. We still have a lot of work to do, but I just need to be patient and not push her too hard. I know every kid is different and goes at their own pace. Bri is not in preschool yet so she isn't able to watch other kids go potty, and it is all on me to teach her. Stresses me out a little (ok - a lot)! But she is a smart cookie. She'll get it eventually.
* Last night, I was rocking Briana before bed and I started singing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" to her. I sang it once and she listened. Then I started singing it again. The one thing I have been worried about with Briana is that she hasn't been singing songs. She would hum along to a song, but not say the words. That is one of the reasons I had her speech evaluated. And she loves to sing, but her own little songs - just la, la, la songs. Last night, she started singing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" with me for the first time. It was so sweet - I felt a big lump in my throat. She didn't get all the words right, but she sure got a lot of them right. Doug was listening to us on the baby monitor in the other room and came in when we were done because he was so excited. It was a really amazing moment. I love all of these "firsts".
* Speaking of singing, I took Briana to the subdivision playground Monday afternoon. As she climbed the ladder, she started to sing "Sube! Sube!" Thanks Diego. She can sing in Spanish now too! LOL!
* I better run. Super-Nana's mommy is signing off. Hope everyone is having a good week!
15 Kind Words:
As for what to do during her preschool class... do laundry. That's what I do now (cough, cough).
Oh, and the Tongginator was three before she potty-trained.
Nothing puts a smile on my face faster than a Super-Nana post!! Always so darn cute!!
I'm glad all went well with the speech.
Good luck with the potty training!
Glad your speech evaluations went well :0
Reading about Briana singing along with you brought tears to my eyes: aren't those moments just wonderful!
Good to hear that you are all feeling better and you know I'm so happy for you with the speech eval, it's nice to put your fears to rest. Good luck with the potty training, it will come. And those few hours you'll have free each week will fly by with errands, laundry, cleaning and other usually not oh so fun things...well that's my life!! Cute piccies!
Cute! Love the Super-Nana!
Everyone hits milestones at different times. It's hard not to compare kids to their peers but ours have to learn a new language. Here kids learn English and French at the same time ... so confusing!
can she get any sweeter?? YOu are rocking this mommyhood thing
That Super-Nana is one cute super hero!!
So sweet that she was singing to you :o)
I am so happy to hear about the evaluation....that is great news!!
Super Nana is adorable as always.....I think she needs a pink cape to match her pink sunglasses that she always wears.....how cute would that be!!
Glad to hear you are all better...I wish I could say we were...This morning we were back at the doc for round two....Super Sarah is SUPER SICK:(

*And a big hip hip horray for Briana not needing speech help!
Super NANA!!! Made me laugh. I guess all super hero love a good party.
Seriously...how do you not eat her alive with those pigtails? I swear, I would be chewing on that little thang all day long...
Jeesh. Cuteness overload.
Glad to hear you are all feeling better. Bri's haircut was cute, but it's always hard to see them growing up.
Oh yes, a free morning... complete and total bliss!
Way to go Bri!! yes don't rush on the potty training. She will get it. Most kids don't go to kindergarten in diapers and she won't either. She may just need some positive peer pressure with mother's day out!
