Yesterday, my sweet Bri got to lead a parade throughout her school. And not just any parade, but a dragon parade for Chinese New Year.
Briana's teacher, along with one other 1st grade teacher, put together a "Red Lantern Reader's Theater and Dragon Parade" every year during Chinese New Year. Since the kids were out of school on winter break for the lantern festival, the reading and parade happened yesterday.
Briana wanted to wear her red dress for the special occasion. She looked so beautiful. I even painted her nails red on Sunday night...
The two classes came into the lunchroom, ready for their presentations...
The kids did amazingly well. There were four different readings. Briana's group did "A Monster Named Year"...
Briana had just a few lines that she had to memorize, but she remembered them and she was Miss Personality reciting them...
A video of the reading...
The teacher then asked the principal and vice principal to "breathe life" into the dragons before the parade...
The kids getting ready to head to the hallway...
Daddy giving Briana a kiss for luck...
Here she comes...
Here is a video...
Once they walked throughout the school, we all headed back to the classroom. This is the sign I contributed for CNY and it was hung on the wall in the hallway next to Bri's room...
The teacher set up an ancestor table and I contributed pictures of my grandpas (Bri's great grandpas), Doug's brother (Bri's uncle) and Doug's grandparents (Bri's great grandparents) who have passed...
One of Bri's classmates was celebrating a birthday, and her mom brought cupcakes and made them in a Chinese New Year theme.
Doug and I checked Bri out of school about 20 minutes early so we didn't have to wait in car line.
This little boy, D, is one of Bri's classmates. His parents checked him out early as well. Well, D has a huge crush on Briana, and it was so cute seeing them interact with each other yesterday as they walked out of school together. :D
Wow - I can't believe how much Briana got to celebrate CNY this year. I loved seeing her beam with pride walking through those hallways yesterday. It has been a wonderful couple of weeks.
But like with anything, it is definitely time to get back to "our regularly scheduled programming." :) Gung Hay Fat Choy everyone!
2 Kind Words:
I can't believe her school did that, how absolutely fantastic.
Briana was great, what a great leader.
Yeah I hear ya on the getting back to normal. I whipped our decorations down so fast my head spun.
I love how much her school did to bring the celebration to all the children. Wish we did stuff like that!
