Portland, Maine ~ Day 4

We visited "The Portland Observatory" on our 4th day in Portland. This was the first day we had some rain. Luckily, all the things we had planned were inside activities.

I thought the observatory was a lighthouse when I spotted it from the hotel room. The tour guide explained it was never a lighthouse - just strictly an observatory...

Our tour guide was fantastic. Super nice and knowledgeable. She was funny too. As we walked up the tower, she explained how the observatory worked back in the day...

The view from the top of the tower was pretty...

There was a basement space under the tower too...

We were hungry after the tour, so we went to DiMillo's restaurant - which is an actual docked ship...

It has a nice, laid back atmosphere...

I got fried shrimp and french fries. I tasted it pretty good that day...

A glass of wine for lunch to calm the nerves - don't judge...

This was a pretty building across the street from Victoria Mansion in Portland. After lunch we visited the mansion...

This is the Victoria Mansion...

We took a tour of the house. You cannot take pictures at all in the mansion, so I swiped these off the internet...

I have to say ~ this was probably one of my favorite parts of the trip. The mansion was absolutely gorgeous. Every room was just amazing. The architecture and the forward thinking for that time was really mind blowing. I could have stayed there all day just looking at everything.

It was late afternoon by the time we got done with everything and we needed to change hotels. We had a 6AM flight the next morning and we stayed at a hotel by the airport.

I have one more post I'm going to write about the trip home.
