Portland, Maine ~ Day 3, Part 1

The weather was once again lovely on Day 3 of our Maine vacation. Some overcast skies and cool temps. Doug suggested we take a ferry ride across the bay...

We passed the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse...

We spotted the Bug Light Lighthouse...

We arrived at Peaks Island...

Instead of exploring Peaks Island, we just turned around and took the ferry back.

We wanted to check out the Titanic artifact exhibit at the Portland Science Center...

It is a traveling exhibit, and we were excited to be able to see it...

We learned so much about the ship and that fateful day...

This is a replica of what a first class cabin would look like...

This is a replica of a third-class cabin...

The first part of the exhibit explained all about the ship and the second part was all about the iceberg and the sinking...

There was a small replica of an iceberg. You could feel how hard the block of ice was and the coldness...

More artifacts...

A miniature replica of what the ship looks like on the ocean floor...

It is just so sad to see so many people lost...

These are some of the people that sailed on the ship...

When we arrived at the science center, we were each assigned a name of a real passenger. We looked at the roster at the end of the tour to see if we survived or not. We all survived. (I have a feeling that all the assigned passengers survived the voyage.)

Also when we arrived at the center, we stood in front of a green screen and could purchase a picture at the end of the tour with the background of our choice. We picked this one...

And this one...

After taking the ferry ride and walking through the museum, it was time for lunch. More on that in my next post...
