Mondays are super busy for Miss B, and I was wondering if she would even be up to looking at the moon on Monday night. Between a full school day, running club and soccer practice, she was definitely getting tired. She really wanted to try to see the moon though on the Autumn Moon Festival.
She got in the shower after practice and got all cleaned up and ready for bed. I told her that even though she was in her jammies and robe, she could still to go outside for a few minutes.
We have so many trees around our house (side and back) and sometimes it is hard to see the moon until it rises above our house. I kept looking outside and I started to see the moon peaking through the leaves on the back side of the house. I called Bri outside and Doug followed. Bri and I were trying to see the moon through the leaves and Doug ventured across the street. Across the street, there was a perfect view - the moon was bright and beautiful.
The clouds had been around for a lot of the day, but as night fell, they all disappeared...
I have some larger lanterns in my basement, but we just opted for Bri's little one since it was getting so late. It is super cute...
Bri was so happy the moon was out and was so bright...
She said "Mom! Take a picture of me holding the moon!"...
Briana, Daddy and Pink Baby (of course)...
I brought out my good camera with my zoom lens to get pics of the moon...
I took the other pics with my cell phone.
One last pic of Bri and Daddy looking at the moon before we headed back inside.
She went to sleep quickly - as I expected.
I honestly wasn't sure what kind of view we would have last night because of all the clouds that were around during soccer practice around 6PM...
The sun setting was really beautiful but not good for moon gazing. By 8:30PM, the clouds had completely moved out.
I used to have a telescope and look at the moon as a kid (I said I wanted to be an astronomer when I was very young). But I have a new found appreciation for the moon that my daughter has given to me. And I truly thank her for that.
1 Kind Words:
Happy Mid-Autumn Moon friends!
