After researching the Road to Hana, the Ke'anae Peninsula was a stop that was mentioned numerous times - always in a positive way. We knew that was where we wanted to stop next. And it was even more beautiful there than I imagined.
Ke'anae is known for its taro fields...
We pulled out of the Ke'anae Arboretum parking area and just two minutes away, there was a road that you have to turn off of to visit the Ke'anae Peninsula. Once again, our app was a bit behind and we didn't know we had to make a turn off the Hana Highway so we missed it. We had to turn around and turn off onto Ke'anae Road.
The first spot we came across on this road was "Aunty Sandy's Famous Banana Bread." I was SO excited. I had actually seen this place on TV on a show about Maui (I think on the Travel Channel). I'm not even really a banana bread fan, but I knew I had to try it...

We bought two loaves and oh my gosh - it was warm, moist and absolutely delicious!!! Doug and I loved it (Bri wasn't a fan - she doesn't like bananas). We ate a couple small slices right then we took the rest back to the hotel. SO, SO good!!!
The next spot we hit was the Lanakila Ihiihi O Iehowa Ona Kava Church. It was just so pretty...
Here is a little info about it...
It felt sacred and special there. So peaceful...
We walked around the grounds for a little while and then we stopped at the bathroom (you can see it in the distance)...
It was a nice, clean bathroom, so it was a good place to stop.
Then we ventured over to the black lava rock beach. It was truly breathtaking...
So many nice picture opportunities...
It was very breezy and the water kept breaking hard on the rocks...
Just listen...
We were enjoying ourselves so much and didn't want to leave, but we knew we had to keep going.
Being in Ke'anae meant we were halfway to Hana. And three minutes after we turned back onto Hana Highway, we came across the official "Halfway to Hana" stand...
We were heading to Waianapanapa State Park to see the black sand beach next.
Off we went...
1 Kind Words:
Love hearing and seeing all of these things. Blessings
