Hilton Head Vacation 2021 - Day 1

After staying at home and social distancing for over a year, it was nice to finally travel somewhere for a much needed change of scenery. We rented a house in the Palmetto Dunes area of Hilton Head Island. We hadn't been to HH since 2010 - Briana was just 4 years old. Before Bri came along, Doug and I had visited there several times. It's such a pretty area. I love all the Spanish moss that hangs on the trees.

We drove a little over 5 hours to get there and the trip was pretty uneventful. We only made two stops on the way there...

We rented the house we stayed at through VRBO.

It was a huge house for just the 3 of us (6 bedrooms), but we liked the beach location and with it being "off season" - it was a pretty good deal.

 

 It was a lovely house located in a cul-de-sac...

There was basically a "wing" of the house that we didn't even use.

We got settled in as quickly as possible and decided to order some food for dinner (delivery). We chose a restaurant called "Frankie Bones" and it was delicious. So delicious, Bri requested it on Thursday night too.

Spaghetti, fried green tomatoes, lobster mac n cheese, calamari (and Doug had a steak)...

That evening after dinner, an intense thunderstorm rolled through.

As I mentioned in my last post, there are always hiccups that we encounter when we go on vacation. Never fails. For some reason, the refrigerator alarm kept going off when we first arrived. The freezer door didn't seem to want to shut all the way. It would ding, ding, ding then stop. Ding, ding, ding then stop. We ended up having to call the rental place to have someone come out and look at the fridge the next day. Come to find out - whoever cleaned the fridge/freezer put the rack in backwards and that kept the freezer from closing completely. We would have had no idea. Crazy - but true. Luckily, it was an easy fix.

We slept pretty well the first night. The next day ended up being a beautiful day....
