The first stop we made along the Hana Highway was at the Ke'anae Arboretum. There is another arboretum along the highway called the "Garden of Eden," but you have to pay to get into that one. Why pay when you can see beautiful plant life and bubbling streams for free?
This was one of the stops where our Gypsy app kind of let us down. We app was a bit behind and we missed the stop (and it was hard to spot the sign for the arboretum from the road and parking was a bit sketchy). We had to turn around and find parking (it was frustrating), but we figured it out...
Once we got in there, it was worth it. There was a nice, easy trail leading into the forest...
As we entered, we realized there were a ton of the rainbow Eucalyptus trees in there too...
It made me a bit sad when I saw several of the trees had been carved in to by ignorant people. Initials, "so and so loves so and so," - it was sad (I refused to take pictures of any of the carvings)...

Unfortunately missing the road marker, turning around, trying to find parking and having to cross a winding road caused me to forget to put bug spray on everyone (which I did have in the car). We got about 3/4th of the way into the arboretum, and Bri and I started getting bitten by mosquitoes (Doug didn't get bit at all). Ugh! We had luckily seen plenty, so we decided to turn around and hike back out before we were completely eaten alive.
We got back in the car and headed to the Ke'Anae Peninsula. More on that next...
