Day 6 - A Day At SCAD

Doug and I left our hotel the same time we did the year before to head over to SCAD for parent day and see Briana in her first class...

We got to the campus in good time (or so we thought), signed in and headed to the buses.

Unfortunately, the buses were running a bit slower this year and the traffic was a bit heavier in town.

We had to wait a few minutes for a bus, but one did finally arrived...

With all the stops/drop offs before getting to Briana's building and construction/traffic (the SCAD campus/classrooms are scattered all over downtown Savannah), it took about 40 minutes to get where we needed to go. I was worried we wouldn't make it before B's class ended. Luckily, we caught the last 10 minutes of it.

Bri's class ended and we still ended up waiting about 10 or 15 minutes after class because buses were running so slow. But, we finally did get back to the main campus.

We decided to grab lunch at the Hive first and then go to Bri's dorm room to pack her up.

We ran into Bri's roommate, K, and her mom at lunch, so Doug and I were able to meet them which was nice. K was so sweet and friendly - I'm so glad the girls got along so well.

Then it was time to head to the room to pack up. The lobby...

We packed Bri all up and brought her suitcase to the car. It was then time for Bri's second class "Cartoons and Comics."

We then headed for the buses again.

Bri ran into her friend that goes to her high school...

 

It was so hot waiting for the correct bus to arrive (they are coded by color), and I think we were waiting for a green route bus. 

 

The buses were so slow. It was crazy hot. The bus area was packed. Nerves were a bit frayed. The buses would fill up quickly and leave and you'd still be standing there not being able to board a bus. The process was a bit of a hot mess this year. We finally ran and got on a bus - which didn't have the air working properly. Ugh - it was a rough ride heading to the classroom (so hot!).

We were very happy to finally get to the building (which happened to be the same building Bri was in the year before also for her afternoon class - except she was on the 3rd floor this time).

We arrived at Bri's classroom and the professor told the parents that the students still had some work to do on their comics. So, he suggested that we find something to do for a while until they started their presentations.

 

We were right in downtown Savannah, so we knew we could easily walk somewhere. Doug looked up a nearby small bistro/bakery and said we could head over there.

I had a cherry cola and we people watched.

We got to the classroom and Briana was still finishing some things up...

The kids had to present characters they drew as well as a comic they came up with.

 Most of the kids presented, but if someone didn't want to, they weren't forced.

 Briana's name was called toward the end of the presentations and she wanted to present her work.

 My introverted, shy girl got up there and rocked it! She was quite excited to present what she had created and the class seemed really engaged. She had them all laughing! The professor seemed very impressed and it was really awesome. I was so proud of her!

 I could tell how much she enjoyed that class.

It was finally time to head back to campus. We kept waiting for a SCAD bus to arrive at our building to take us back, but buses kept passing us by. Finally, a bus stopped to drop someone off and was about to leave with no one on it. The person in charge of making sure kids got to and from their classroom locations started talking to the driver and got persistent with her. She said she needed to take us all back to campus. Finally, the driver did - thank goodness. I don't know what was going on with the bus situation, but it was majorly messed up on parent day (Bri said it had been fine during the week). I was just ready to get back to the main campus.

We arrived back and checked Briana out. Luckily, we ran into Bri's roommate one last time to say goodbye (Bri was showing her the comic)...

We got back to the hotel around 5:30 and we were all beat. We ordered some pizzas for takeout...

So delish!

Unfortunately, it was a Friday evening - the weekend before July 4th. A musical group performed right beneath our room for several hours. Sigh. They were actually pretty entertaining. You can see the people gathering (and dancing)...

Luckily, everything quieted down below us by 10pm. Bri was so tired from such a busy week, she fell asleep before it was all over - music and all.

We planned to get up early in the morning (which we did) and head out - and go straight home. We knew it was going to be a crazy, busy traffic day - which it was. More on that next...
