On the morning of day 4, we finally experienced something that we hadn't the entire trip so far...THE SUN! Yes! We were so happy to see it...
It was a gorgeous day.
Doug and Bri had to be at the dock about an hour before the whale watching tour, so they got up early (which meant I got up early too) to be at the dock by 7:30 (boat left at 8:30).
I was a bit sad I wasn't going to be able to go with them, but if you remember, I had a horrible issue with seasickness on the ocean when we went on a sailboat in Hawaii. I had been quite nervous that I could have issues again - despite being armed with Dramamine and seasickness bracelets. So, I was super happy for them and I was ok just spending the morning on my own.
As soon as they left, I treated myself to a little room service...
And then I sat on the balcony waiting for them to depart. I could see the boat right from the hotel room...
(They were sitting on the top ~ Bri is in the white jacket).
So the next number of pictures were provided by Doug and Briana - since I obviously wasn't with them.
Ready to board...
Doug's view of our hotel...
On the boat...
Blowing the horn before departing...
Some pictures heading out to sea...
Passing Egg Rock Lighthouse (the rocks are covered with harbor seals and gray seals)...
Once Doug and Bri got out into open water, they came upon a whale fairly quickly. It was a female whale named "Fundy."
They followed her for about an hour ~ and they said it was really cool...
Here is a photo taken by the whale watching company of Fundy that day...
Here she is in action...
It was very cold out on the ocean...
After being out for several hours, they finally started to head back. Bri - who usually doesn't feel any type of motion sickness - said she was feeling ready to get back to shore toward the very end. It was quite choppy out there. I would have probably died - LOL!
She was very happy that she got to see a whale.
As for me, I had every intention of going out and maybe doing a little more shopping, but instead, I decided to just enjoy some people watching from the balcony of the hotel. There was a lot of hustle and bustle going on because of the fireworks display that was going to happen that evening. The police were starting to block off streets. The breeze was blowing and it was just so relaxing there...
They were getting some music ready for the evening...
Here comes the boat back...
D & B got back to the hotel and were really tired from their early morning, so we just ordered some room service/burgers from Paddy's Irish Pub for lunch (pub sits right under the hotel) and just chilled in the afternoon...
We knew were were going to have a great view from our hotel room for the fireworks. Things were a bit busy in the evening in the town with all the fireworks hoopla, so Doug and I took a walk over to West Street Cafe and picked up some dinner before the fireworks and brought it back to the hotel room...
The food was SO good (lobster scampi, calamari - so, so good)...
We weren't exactly sure where the fireworks would be set off from, but they were actually closer than we even imagined.
More on that next...
