Briana had slept well the night before Day 5. She was bright and smiley that morning at breakfast.
She even gave me her best Elvis Presley imitation (heh)...
The sun was shining, but the wind was strong that day and the ocean was a bit choppier than in past days...
The girls headed back to Camp Carnival. The guys chilled and did some reading in the library. The ladies went to look through lots of professional pictures (which I spent way too much money on. :D). The ladies and guys met up for some trivia. We were ahead point wise for a while and then we guessed an answer wrong and had points taken away, so we ended up losing...
It was time to pick the girls up from camp. They had painted faces once again. But, I could tell by Briana's demeanor that something was off...
She was quiet. Looked like she was going to cry. Kathy and I headed to the buffet to get the girls something to eat and Doug sat down with Briana. By the time I sat down with food for her and me, she was in tears. She said to Doug she disagreed with Chani about something at camp, but it was so minor, Chani didn't even think about it again and moved on. Briana on the other hand, was holding on to it and refused to explain to us why she was so upset. The more we inquired with her about it, the more she cried. I took her out onto the deck to see if she could explain why she was so upset. She was crying so hard, she was beginning to hyperventilate. I told her if she didn't calm down that we were going to go back to the room. That made her even more mad. I admit I was starting to get frustrated and angry with her. Briana, when upset, has a hard time expressing and/or explaining herself. She clams up and cannot talk. I finally took her hand, went into the dining area and told Doug and the rest of the gang that Bri and I were skipping lunch and going to the room.
I got her into the room and made her lay on her bed. She cried and cried and cried. Doug finally came into the room with our plates of food so we could eat. She wouldn't calm down. I had to get on her a bit and make her calm down. I knew this meltdown was a mix of "Briana being Briana" and her being tired and overstimulated. I finally calmed her down enough to talk with me. The issue really was ridiculously minor - but Briana's tiredness and overstimulation made it so much bigger.
She calmed down enough to eat something and we knew there was a chocolate fountain at the buffet. She was totally calm and happy again (with puffy eyes and what little was left of her face paint) when we headed out for some chocolate...
For days, Briana had begged to go down the big slide on the ship. After some chocolate, we put her in her suit and headed to the slide...
She ascended the stairs and went down it 5 times. She was a very happy camper...
Matt and Kathy had a VIP cocktail party they were invited to go to that afternoon, and I happened to run into Chani and Elene when we were done with the slide. They were heading to the kid pool. I told Doug to head to the room and I would let Briana play with Chani for a while...
As you can see, all was well and Briana was in great spirits again...
It was finally time to head inside to get dressed for one last dinner in the dining room.
We went to the M Family's room to pick them up for dinner. We opened a bottle of wine and we toasted Kathy. We thanked her for talking us in to going on the cruise. :)
Here are the girls ready for dinner...

I asked Song if he would take a picture with the little girls. He was an awesome waiter. Loved him...
A magician walked around that evening...
There was some more dancing...
Then the waiters serenaded us with a song...

Some video of it...
We said goodbye to the table we sat at for 5 days...
We saw a family-friendly comedy show after dinner. The comedian was so funny...
The girls begged to go back to Camp Carnival one last time. I wasn't sure, but I decided to let Briana go. She had a blast (with no issues!).
The grown ups and Elene went to do 80's music trivia. The beginning of a song would play and we had to write it down. Just know, I am AWESOME at 80's music trivia. Guess who won a genuine gold plastic trophy? That would be ME (oh and our team - heh)!! Boo Yeah! 19 out of 20 - and that is only because one of the songs was super hard and I don't even believe it was from the 80's (everyone was boycotting it!)...
We then went to see one more Vegas-style show that night and it was time to pick up the girls from Camp Carnival.
We needed to get to bed because we were docking in Miami the next morning.
To be continued...
2 Kind Words:
Ohhh - that picture of her with her puffy eyes eating her chocolate broke my heart a little - just because I have seen that kind of meltdown (the mostly tired one) and know how draining it can be for everyone, but looks like your last day ended up being AWESOME! You have really gotten me excited for our cruise - thanks for sharing your fun trip!
Those meltdowns are hard for everyone even though it's oh so normal. Meltdowns are very different from tantrums and it's often as you said when they're over tired and/or over stimulated. A way their little bodies react to what they're experiencing. I also relate to what you were feeling! More than once I've been heard to say, 'Mommy is taking a time out' just to breathe and calm down so that I can deal with the situation better.
((hugs)) Glad you had such a great cruise!
