Wrapping Up Miami and Heading Toward Ft Lauderdale

The weekend finally arrived and it was time to pack up and head to see some family in the Ft Lauderdale area.

Before we saw Dawn and her girls on Friday, Doug, Bri and I took a quick drive around my childhood area of town. We went to my old neighborhood first.

A street that leads to the neighborhood...

My old neighborhood - the place I lived, played with my friends, rode my bike, broke my arm and laid on the grass and stared at the clouds...

My old house. The owners built a room where the garage used to be - so the main house is bigger now...

Some of the neighbors homes (liking the Christmas lights on the first one - heh)...

This is the back field to the high school I would have attended if I had stayed. My dad would take my sister and I to the field to fly a kite every so often. The school is across the street from my old house. I could have walked to school every day...

This is where my elementary school stood. It is still named the same school, but my original school was torn down a few years after I left and it was rebuilt...

The lake we drove by to get to the local shopping center...

The same McDonalds...

And Carvel on the corner...

So much has changed, but there are a few things that are the same.

It was bittersweet to have to leave, but it was time to move on.

Saturday morning, we left the Colonnade...

And the beautiful view...

Next post ~ visiting with family...
