NYC Trip 2024 - Day 1/W Hotel, Times Square And Fish/Chicken & Chips

We woke up on the morning of March 30th and headed to the airport.

Because it was the first official day of many of the schools' spring breaks, we left early - thank goodness. The parking deck that Doug likes to park in was filled up. We went to his second favorite deck - same thing. We were a bit panicked, but I mentioned going to a park n fly that we used to park at years ago instead of driving around the airport trying to find something. We got to the park n fly and that went very smoothly.

We took a shuttle from there to the airport. Security went pretty smoothly. We had gotten to the airport a bit later than we planned, so instead of walking all the way to the Delta Sky Club, we thought we would just grab some breakfast at a bagel place near our gate. BIG mistake. Many of the walk up restaurants at the airport are kiosk ordering now (only two kiosks at this restaurant) and people don't know how to use kiosks. Especially the senior citizen couple who took up one kiosk for 10 minutes trying to figure it out - no joke. After waiting a ridiculous amount of time for food, we got to our gate and scarfed down our breakfast quickly. I was doing surprisingly well health wise - except I obviously did have some anxiety at that point.

We had a very smooth flight and landed in Newark, NJ early afternoon...

We grabbed an Uber and headed to our favorite hotel - the "W" hotel...

We were very happy because our room was ready early and we were able to settle into the room before we walked around Times Square...

It was then time to walk around Times Square...

Bri's favorite store - Line Friends...

Yes - BTS actually did sign that weird little white figure sitting in the store.

More Times Square...

A NYC-themed store where Bri bought some gifts for friends...

I have been to NYC several times now, but I have never experienced the crowd size in Times Square that I experienced that weekend. It was the Saturday afternoon before Easter Sunday. It was shoulder to shoulder. Very uncomfortable.

My heel unfortunately was really starting to give me issues after a while too and I was limping quite a bit.

We were all ready to grab an early dinner.

Briana is a big Gordon Ramsey fan, so she really wanted to try out his Times Square fish and chips restaurant...

There was good news and bad news regarding this restaurant. The good news was that it was unusually not crowded/packed. The bad news is they had a leak in the ceiling and they were only doing takeout (which is why it wasn't really crowded). We were so close to our hotel that we didn't mind doing takeout at all - so that is what we did. We just ate in our hotel room...

Bri got chicken tenders and fries (chips), I got lobster tenders/fried shrimp and fries, and Doug got the traditional fish tenders and fries. The food was delish - very fried though - but very good. But with my reflux/heartburn issues, it was definitely a mistake because I didn't feel great afterward (and I had been eating so carefully before that). Worth it in the moment because it was really tasty and I was in NYC but not so good later that night.

Between my heel and my tummy, I was done for the rest of the evening. Bri wasn't though. She wanted to do a little more. So, she and Doug went back down to the Times Square madness to visit the M&M store and get some Juniors Cheesecake.

They walked through a bit of Broadway and snapped some photos...

This is the cheesecake they brought back for me (which I ate at a different time - there was a small fridge in the room)...

Nighttime in NYC (view from our room)...

We had a very big day the next day - which was Easter Sunday. We had theater tickets to see "Little Shop of Horrors" and brunch reservations at Nobu 57. I didn't get much sleep that night because I had a rough time with my reflux. I really hoped all night that I could make it the next day.

(I won't leave you hanging - I made it and had a nice time!)

Day 2 next...
