I'm already fiercely missing the beach. This week back from vacation has slapped me in the face and I'm not liking it one bit. Hopefully recapping this vacation will make me fill a tiny bit better.
When we headed out for this trip, the weather forecast said it would be very cold and rainy every single day. We were disappointed because of course - we wanted to enjoy being on the beach. But we mainly needed the change of scenery, so we were just going to go with it. The only good weather days that were predicted - the day we drove down and the day we left. Heh. We even told the rental company not to warm the pool because it was going to be just too cold and rainy to enjoy it (and it was quite pricey to warm it). The forecast completely changed when we arrived. The weather on this trip was seriously wacky. Each day was completely different.
So, the first night was thunderstorms. I woke up the next day (Tuesday/Day 2) to a beautiful sunny day with perfectly cool temps (highs in the upper 50's/low 60's). I couldn't believe it.
I went downstairs kind of early to make myself a little breakfast.
That's when hiccup number 2 happened. What was I hearing? Bang, bang, bang. Saw, saw, saw. I tried to look out the kitchen window, but there was a big hedge separating our house from the one next door (our house has the green roof - it was the house next to us)...

After talking with Doug and calming down, we realized there was nothing we could do about it but make the most of it. Which totally sucks. There were several houses in the neighborhood being worked on. It is "off" season after all. Come to find out, they were redoing the doors leading out to the back deck and part of the deck. Maybe windows too - I'm not sure.
The good news - it wasn't as bad as I imagined. The first day was the loudest day (which wasn't horribly loud) and then it got progressively better each day for some reason. Luckily, we couldn't really hear it inside of the house. It wasn't constant either. It would come and go. They always stopped around dinnertime. So though it wasn't perfect, it wasn't the nightmare I envisioned it could be. But, I of course I wished it hadn't happened at all.
So after I had my moment, I decided to go outside and sit on the deck looking at the water (construction or no construction). It was actually quiet for a little while, so I took advantage of that along with a few pictures...
It was beautiful - and warm if you were sitting in the sun.
After a little while, the construction started up again and I went inside.
Doug, Bri and I then decided to take a nice, long walk on the beach...
It was an absolutely gorgeous day. A day we didn't expect to get.
The beach was semi-busy, but it was not even close to what you would see in the spring or summer. Lots of people walking, riding bikes and walking dogs. Plenty of room to spread out and social distance. No need for masks because we were outside and could distance so well. It was SO nice. Felt kind of "normal."
Here are a few pics of the walk...
Bri enjoyed collecting some small shells on the beach...
After a nice long walk, we walked back to the house...
We ate a little lunch and just relaxed. I went back outside during what I think was the construction guys' lunch break. So it was quiet again.
And this is me. I am looking quite gray (and tired and windblown) in this picture. I haven't had my hair done in months. Not since Sept I think. I didn't feel it was safe enough with the holidays and all the new variants that have been out there. I know I could probably go "natural" with my hair but I'm only 47. I'm not ready to do the gray thing yet. I have a hair appointment for the end of next month.
Briana wanted to take a second walk in the afternoon (to look for some more shells). We also wanted to take advantage of the pretty weather in case the rest of the week didn't allow us to walk again.
The second time we went out, it was low tide...
Doug found a sand dollar (which we put back because we thought it was probably alive)...
It was another really nice walk.
This is how I also enjoyed the ocean - listening to the water from the bedroom...
We cooked a nice dinner and then watched a movie. We decided to watch the original X-Men movie (Bri nor I had ever seen it). It was really good...
We watched the rest of the original trilogy on Wednesday and Thursday of that week.
So, it ended up being a lovely day (despite the construction) with gorgeous weather that we didn't expect at all.
The next day was quite different. Much colder and not as sunny.
