Dragon Boat Festival and China-Themed Play Date

Our Friday and Saturday were filled with all things China! Above, Briana is wearing a Great Wall of China t-shirt that we bought her in Beijing. She was all ready to go to the Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday!

The dragon boats were beautiful and the races were lots of fun to watch. It was a pretty warm day though. We had to buy two umbrellas to shield us from the hot sun. And the morning heats were running about an hour late. At noon, there was supposed to be a ceremony including a lion dance and several Asian dance performances. But by 1PM, the races were still going on. Between the heat, the hour plus drive to the venue and the excitement of the morning, Briana was very tired and we had to leave before we saw any of the performances. :( But we did get to eat some delicious lo mein and fried rice before we left.

The lion dance performers had placed their masks on the ground before their performance and we were able to snap a picture of Briana standing next to them. Isn't she cute???

The beautiful dragon boats. (The H@me Dep@t had a boat in the race!)

It was a wonderful morning and a great experience for Briana, Doug and me. We will be back next year!

And on Friday, we had a China-themed play date! My friend Angela invited us over along with some good friends for crafts and food!

Here is Briana dressed and ready to go for the day...

Some group photos were taken of course!

A wonderful moon craft put together by Angela (since the Autumn Moon Festival is almost here.)

And all the mommies came with a Chinese dish. I think we did really well for our first tries at making some of these dishes! We had cashew chicken and rice, sesame noodles, almond cookies and cinnamon wontons and vegetable egg rolls. The egg rolls were compliments of moi. See the egg roll on Briana's plate? I made that! And it was actually edible! I'd even say it was yummy. Yay me!!!

Mmmm, delicious!

Me and my gal!

Thank you Angela for inviting us to such a fun and meaningful play date!!!

I am with TM.....share the recipe please! My family loves eggrolls and that is one thing I have never attempted to make.....would love to try!

It looks like the boat festival and the playdate were so much fun! I love seeing the girls all dressed up.......I can't wait to see our little China girl wearing one of those sweet outfits! I might need to break down and get one for Sarah to celebrate CNY for this year.

Sorry...I am chatty tonight, didn't mean to write you a book:)

Hope you have a great week!
