Savannah - Day 4 (July 4th Evening)

Being at the Westin on Hutchinson Island on 4th of July was the place to be. There was "wrist band" access everywhere - we had to wear blue wrist bands the entire day. The hotel wanted to make sure only guests were accessing the grounds. Non-guests could pay for access, but it was a bit pricy.

We looked outside around 8PM and saw the boats starting to gather for the show...

We headed down with our beach towels and picked a nice spot on the lawn...

See that clump of trees behind Briana? Right behind there was where the fireworks were shot from...

About 30 minutes before the show, a huge barge decided it needed to come down the Savannah River. We had not seen any large barges come through all day. Not sure why this one needed to. I'm sure all those little boats that gathered needed to move out of the way...

Sitting on the lawn, we met the nicest couple that were staying at the hotel for their anniversary. They snapped some pics of the three of us...

Finally at 9:30, the fireworks went off. I never imagined they would be so large. Briana was awestruck...

She was so excited...

After the show, we went straight up to our hotel room. No traffic! Awesome! I looked over at River Street from our hotel window and it was packed. I was so glad I wasn't on that side of the river!

We got up the next morning and headed for home. When we go back one day (and we definitely will), we will try to visit more of Savannah (museums, ghost tours, etc). Doug, Bri and I were really sad to see our spur of the moment vacation come to an end.
