Another Week Down

Another week down in Casa de Briana!

As you know, Monday was the Autumn Moon Festival and our family did a little moon gazing that evening. The Autumn festival isn't recognized in the states as national holiday like it is in China, so we had to go about our day as normal.

Bri went to school. Doug held soccer practice that evening. The girls were still on a bit of a high because they did so well on Saturday.

Here is Coach Doug practicing goal kicking drills with the girls...

Tuesday and Wednesday were quiet days. Not particularly eventful. Not minding that at all.

Thursday was Sept 11 of course. Always a somber day. I had a chiropractor appointment that morning and this is the sight that I saw on one of the bridges that morning (I wish my pics hadn't blurred out but I was snapping and driving - shhh)...

Veterans and their families put up flags and were waving to the cars as they passed by over and under the overpass...

I had to pick Briana up a bit early from school on Thursday so she could go to her 8 year old checkup at the pediatrician.

I absolutely love Bri's doctor, so that is why I stay. But the wait times are getting pretty bad. We waited 40 minutes just to get called back. And there were probably six people in the waiting room, so it wasn't packed. I was irritated.

Finally we get called back, and we were told Bri would need to give blood so they could get a blood count. She also had to take a hearing test, get her exam and get her flu mist. What I thought would be a 30 minute exam ended up being almost two hours. Miss B was a total champ. She was a bit nervous getting her blood drawn...

They pricked her finger and the lab tech squeezed and squeezed it to get enough blood and Bri watched her. I couldn't believe it. Her finger throbbed a bit afterward. She was so brave.

Good news is that she is great health. 42 percentile for height and 21 percent for weight. She is long and lean. Rarely gets sick - with the exception of a nasty virus in November and hives two weeks ago. Hopefully we won't have to see the doctor for another year, but being in elementary school, I won't hold my breath.

As I was about to head home, my phone died. I guess Briana keeping busy on my phone while we waited forever to get called back zapped my juice. No way to let Doug know we were heading home. Sigh. When we got home, I decided to not cook and we headed to the new Mellow Mushroom that opened down the street from our neighborhood...

It was crowded and we had to wait a while for the food, but once we got it, it was delicious. Definitely worth the wait. And I had a much needed glass of wine...

Briana and I struggled over studying for a spelling test when we got home after dinner. It had been a long day and B wasn't able to focus. She knew the regular words like the back of her hand but the challenge words were stumping her. I finally had to walk away. We studied all week and she still wasn't able to remember how to spell them. If she doesn't get them right, she doesn't get them right. I can only do so much.

Today was crazy hair/spirit day at school. Bri loves being crazy...

We used our assortment of hair bows...

Bri came up with the idea of attaching a bunch of the bows to a headband. It turned out really cute...

I told Briana how cute she looked this morning with her crazy hair as we were both looking into her bathroom mirror. She asked me, "Mom, how can I be cute and crazy at the same time?" I told her she actually did that every single day. Snort.

Have a great weekend everyone!

(Bri has fall break next week, so I'll have lots to blog about. This is when I start to not mind that Bri starts school in early August. This break is well deserved. :D )
