I still wasn't a 100% better the weekend after my cold (I was still a bit weak), but I saw on FB that our favorite strawberry farm only had one day left of picking on Sunday afternoon. We had an extra rainy spring, so the strawberry season started late and ended a bit quicker than usual.
We didn't get to pick last year because the farm was not able to open to the public, so I really wanted to pick this year. Bri and I decided on a whim to head over on the last day of picking.
We had gone in 2011...
2012...
2013...
And finally made it back in 2015...
There were a ton of people that arrived right when the farm opened like we did. We all knew that the strawberries would get picked over quickly and wanted to get as many in our baskets as we could...
The weeds were a bit overgrown and the strawberries were slightly smaller than usual, but the berries were still red, sweet and beautiful...
Lots of people in the field...
We came home (a bit sweaty and hot) with a small and large basket full of beautiful berries...
About an hour or so after we got home, the skies opened up and it started to pour. We grabbed the berries just in time!
We've enjoyed them so much - just plain, on ice cream and pie and in strawberry shortcake. Hand-picked strawberries are the best!
