Look at my sweet maiden - wasn't she pretty? The dress Bri wore in the above picture was actually a dress my sister worse to a costume party as an adult many years ago. My mom found it stashed in a closet at her house and thought it would be perfect for the knighting ceremony that Bri's Venture class held in November. My mom altered the dress to Briana's size. Didn't she do an amazing job?
Briana's Venture (gifted) class studied the medieval period all last semester - and they held a "knighting ceremony" to celebrate everything they had learned. Parents were invited to attend.

The kids filed into the cafeteria. All the boys were going to be knighted (and any girl who wanted to be knighted could be as well). About half the girls decided to be maidens (because that is how it was in medieval times - Bri just wanted to be a maiden)...

After the knighting ceremony took place, there was a celebration. All the kids participated in acts/performances.
There was joke telling...
Stilt walking...
Juggling...
Poem reciting...
Briana and a few of her friends did a ribbon dance...
More joke telling...
There was also some acrobatics.

The ceremony was so cute. The kids had a lot of fun and they were all quite talented!
While the kids were learning about the medieval period, they were asked to draw a castle and put information they learned on it. They were then judged by the teachers. Bri got 2nd place - but even though she got 2nd, her castle was the one hung on the wall in the classroom (because her teacher liked it so much)...
Briana loved learning all about the medieval period. She's sad it's over now!
The 4th and 5th grade Venture classes went to the Medieval Times restaurant for a field trip in November (and I chaperoned). More on that in my next post!
