Maui Vacation 2019 - Day 1/Travel

The travel time from the east coast of the continental U.S. to the Hawaiian islands is LONG. There are no direct flights from Atlanta to Maui, so we flew to into LAX and then on to Maui (OGG). It was 4.5 hours and then 5.5 hours with about a two hour delay between flights.

We got to the Atlanta airport early in the morning. Because Doug travels so much, we get lots of nice perks - like sitting in the Delta lounge before our flight...

Flying to Hawaii and back first class...

When we arrived in LAX, we headed for the Delta lounge again for free food (cause that's how we roll).

We were able to watch the planes take off and land...

Food and drink...

Bri wanted to sample every dessert they had...

We saw one famous person at LAX. He was definitely treated like a celebrity. I tried to get a glimpse of who it was and Doug secretly snapped this pic...

I think it was Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon. It was kind of hard to tell because I didn't want to get too close to him, but I'm pretty sure that was him.

Then it was time to board flight #2...

Second leg of the trip...

 Long flight to Maui...

We watched lots of movies to pass the time.

Finally, we started our descent...

Doug got the prettier side of the plane for the landing, so he took these pics below (Bri and I saw mostly ocean)...

Landing...

We arrived in Hawaii around 6PM - which meant it was around midnight at home...

We rented a car at the airport and drove about an hour or so to the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua...

It was getting dark when we arrived.

We arrived to yummy fresh fruit juice and shell leis (they don't give flower leis at the Ritz)...

We were pretty tired from the long day of travel and the time change, so we were ready to check in and just go to sleep. We made the decision to see the Haleakala Sunrise the next morning, so we had to get up extra early. Like 2AM early.

I'll blog about each specific day we spent in Hawaii, but first, I want to talk all about the hotel. It was amazing. That will be my next post!

Wow!! Already off to a great start! Cannot wait to follow along on your journey! I'm sure it's tough with Doug being away for business so often but it's nice to benefit from some of the perks afterwards! Looking forward to more! :D
