Briana and I started taking a Chinese language class together last Tuesday. We will be going for an hour each Tuesday afternoon. It is going to be really tough for me to learn - I won't lie. The 5 tones are difficult for me to distinguish. I hope Briana's ears can pick up the tones better than mine can. I will be happy just getting the basics. I hope Briana can get much more.
I'm not the best at learning new languages (I've tried to learn both Spanish and French in high school and college). I'm really out of my comfort zone doing this. I do think it would be wonderful if I could learn a new language. And of course I doing it for my girl. Wish me (and Bri) luck!

7 Kind Words:
I do admire you - it is so hard as an adult to learn a new language. Children seem to simply absorb it all and learn language much more easily. She is an ideal age for doing this. Hannah teaches me Slovak - perhaps Briana can help mommy with her homework :)
Just the fact that you are open to learn the language of Bri's birth country is awesome! Whatever you pick up is an added bonus.
Our 4 year old started bilingual school last year in their pre-school program (we speak Spanish at home, he goes to an English speaking school)... You would be AMAZED at how quickly children pick up languages at at this age!
I do wish you luck. Learning a new language is easy for some and really not for others (I'm in the latter category.)
So, my hat's off to you.
Ok - you're my hero! I really, really want to do this also when the time is right.
Go GIRL!
Come see me - I'm giving away a Free Blog Makeover!

I went with Lily for 2 years I was finally getting to the stage where I could understand the Chinese ladies when they spoke to each other ( not well but at least the jist of things) and then the class was cancelled. I never did learn to speak it though! LOL
Good luck and have fun ~ that's what really counts.
It's so neat that you're doing this for your daughter. I can imagine that learning Chinese as an adult would be quite difficult, but at the very least it is yet another shared experience for mommy and daughter. However much you do learn is a bonus, and I'm sure someday it will mean a lot to Briana that you did this.
Good luck! You get an A++ just for trying.
