Briana loves when there is any type of theme going on at school and she is always eager to participate.
For the next few days, the kids are participating in the "Read Across America" campaign. They celebrated Dr. Suess Day today - so it was red and white day...
Briana always requests a silly picture...
"Read Across America" actually started yesterday at B's school, so the kids were asked to wear silly socks...
And the day before all the "themed" stuff, Briana wanted to wear all white/cream. She said she looked like a snow bunny. :)
Next week there will be Green Eggs and Ham Day (wear green), Silly Hat Day (silly hats) and Wacky Wednesday (total wacky outfit).
What is neat about this campaign happening at this time is that Briana is really starting to dig reading. She has been able to read pretty well for a while now and she has always liked looking at books, but right after Christmas break it seemed like a light bulb went off for her and all of a sudden she started to really enjoy reading.
My kid was not the kid that could read at age 3 or 4 years old. Nope. She was 5 before she could really read a book. But now, she is reading like a champ and that is so cool! She still rather have pictures in her books (I mean what good is a book with no pretty pictures, right?), but I'm sure that will change with time.
I have tried to work with Briana a lot this school year with reading. She has to do a short book report each week for homework. According to Briana, she told me that she is one of the leaders in reading books in her class and asked me if she could do two book reports this week. I think she gets a small prize for reading a certain number of books and completing a certain number of book reports (I need to double check this with her teacher) and she told me that she is two reports away from hitting that number. Incentive or not, my five year old Briana would never have asked to do two book reports in one week. I'm not so sure what has gotten into my kid lately, but I'm not complaining! :)
Happy Birthday Dr. Suess!
