Georgia Snow 2017

As most of you know, Georgia gets snow maybe once a year. We were bracing for a supposedly really big storm the first weekend in January according to the weather forecasters. The good news was that it was scheduled to land on a Friday night into Saturday morning, so no one would hopefully get stuck on the road like they did years ago during the Atlanta "Snowpocalypse."

We had somehow misplaced the sled Bri had a few years ago during our last good snow, so Doug found out that Ace Hardware had some sleds for sale and we headed over there on Thursday night to get a couple.

Bri and Pink Baby decided to try them out...

The kids did go to school on Friday, but they had early release. I picked Bri and Caitlin up from school and they played at my house for a few hours. They were so excited about snow coming - they played with fake snow balls to get ready...

Some "Pie Face" fun...

Caitlin headed home and that Friday evening, D, B and I locked ourselves in the house and I used our piggy crockpot for dinner. ;) ...

That night, the rain and sleet did start to fall...

You could hear it...

We were expecting a lot of snow according to the weather people. So when I awoke to this...

I was a bit miffed. Once again, a bogus weather forecast. I was feeling disappointed for Briana.

She bundled up anyway that morning...

She, Doug and I headed to the golf course behind our house. And you know what? There was actually a significant amount of snow/ice that fell. It was the kind of snow was actually fantastic for sledding.

Bri was stoked...

Doug was pretty happy too...

Bri laughed when Doug slid down the hill - he was getting some speed...

They had a few sled races...

Snow giggles...

Snow smiles...

Bri wanted to make a snow angel. I told her the snow was pretty icy in consistency, but she insisted...

Not bad...

Bri was very happy when friend/neighbor Caitlin and her mom Jennifer joined us...

Hand holding trying to get back up the hill...

We moved to an even bigger hill on the golf course, but unfortunately after one run, we were a bit to nervous about the girls sliding down it. The hill went straight down into a creek...

We were told about another good spot in the neighborhood, so we headed there instead.

Pretty walk on the way (creek they could have fallen into)...

We arrived at the new spot and there were a lot of middle school kids there (including Caitlin's brother).

Bri attempted the hill/driveway herself once, but it was a bit dangerous if you didn't navigate it correctly.

So, Frankie helped Bri go down one more time...

There they go...

See the orange cones at the bottom? The kids were told to avoid that spot because it was a drop off. Of course, when Bri went herself, she went right toward it - yikes. That is why Frankie ended up helping her the second time...

After several hours of sledding, the girls were getting tired, wet and cold. We asked Caitlin to come over and hang out (and they played all afternoon). They warmed their feet by the fire...

It was a nice morning and relaxing afternoon.

Because the snow ended up being so icy and the temps stayed so cold, the ice on the roads took forever to melt. If you had an area that didn't get any sun, the ice stayed for days. This was our driveway on day 4 after the snow - a sheet of ice. I'm not kidding. Our driveway gets no sun...

The kids ended up being out of school on Monday and Tuesday because so many neighborhoods were still iced over.

I was really hoping to get one more snow in before spring, but I just don't think it will happen. The following weekend after snow weekend ~ the temp in GA hit 70 degrees. Unreal. I swear, the temperature has been all over the place ~ totally bipolar!

Wow! You sure made the most of your snow! Can you believe we don't even own a sled?! Must remedy that! This Mama's an indoor girl but Hannah loves to sled so we must get out soon.

What a wonderful weekend filled with family and friend time!
