Yep, I got nailed. I was so sick the entire week after Christmas. I was at urgent care at 7AM on December 26, trying to get drops for the double pink eye that decided to present itself on Christmas Day.
I felt like someone was playing a cruel joke on me. I had been doing so much better (see Christmas season Part 1 and Part 2) and it really bummed me out.
I was so nervous that I would lose my taste and smell again because of a head horrible cold. And guess what? I totally did. It started to leave me by Monday evening. Tuesday, I tasted and smelled absolutely nothing at all. By Wednesday evening, it was slowly starting to come back (thank goodness). It certainly didn't help my anxiety though.
I felt horrible. I could hardly get out of bed for days. I felt like I had been hit by a Mack truck. I hadn't had a head cold like that in years.
I had a couple moments where I cried because I couldn't believe what was happening. But what can you do? I just rested and watched a lot of movies to keep my mind busy.
And then Carrie Fisher passed away, two days after Christmas. Just so sad for our Star Wars loving family...
While I was incapacitated, Doug had to pick up my slack. He put all the Christmas presents away and kept Bri entertained. I was so grateful he had that week off from work.
He and Bri saw "Sing" that week...
Bri went over to her friend Mary's house one afternoon to play. She also face-timed and played Minecraft online with her friend Maisie to keep busy. Of course, B had Christmas presents to play with including her new Nintendo 3DS.
I did manage to feel good enough by Friday of that week to start putting a few Christmas decorations away. And, I also managed to go out to dinner on NYE (more on that in my next post). When I went out that Saturday night, it was the first time that I had left the house once since Christmas Day - that is how sick I was. :(
I was so ready to see 2016 leave. I said to myself "2017" is going to be much better!!!
Well, on January 2nd, I needed to wash and dry some clothes (I was super behind after being sick for a week). I was still not feeling great, I looked like death and I was lying down between loads. Doug was busy - can't remember what he was doing. The doorbell rang late in the morning, and Doug and I figured it was just UPS or something like that. The person rang the bell a few times, but we just weren't able to answer.
About a half an hour later, the fire department was at our door...
Yup. The fire department.
Our elderly neighbor had been taking a walk and saw steam coming out of our roof. She was knocking to let us know. When we didn't answer the door, she called the fire department. Why was steam coming from the roof? It was very cold and damp that day, and the heat from the dryer was creating steam as it left the dryer vent and hit the cold air.
I'm not even kidding.
I know it had been unusual to see me doing laundry, but that was a bit ridiculous. ;)
The firemen knew what it was the minute they drove up. They wrote a quick report and moved on.
Doug felt it necessary to document this important occasion...
And right before Christmas, we found out that Mei Mei had a hernia. Doug noticed a lump in her stomach (thank goodness) and took her into the vet. She had a hernia that was obviously getting larger ~ probably created when she had her spade surgery. Just lovely. Surgery was schedule for January 4.
I started to think to myself - please let 2017 get better than this. Yikes!!!
