Cherishing Time With Great Grandma

My mom, Briana and I went to visit my grandmother on Friday and took her out to lunch. I try to spend a day with my grandmother whenever Bri and I have a chance. Unfortunately, it is difficult sometimes with Briana's hectic schedule. My grandmother suffers from Alzheimer's Disease, and each time I go to visit her, I notice a little more of the disease that is slowly taking her from us. She lights up when she sees Briana (and recognizes her), but she doesn't always remember her name or how old she is. She asks lots of the same questions over and over and over again. She does know that Briana is my daughter though, and luckily she still remembers the people closest to her. My grandmother is a lot quieter nowadays. She listens to me and my mom chit chat, but she doesn't have a lot to add to the conversation. She smiled a lot on Friday, and that makes me happy. We all try to live in the moment with my grandma as much as possible. I'm sure a few minutes after Briana and I went home on Friday, she forgot we were even there. So we take lots of pictures to remember the fun we had in the moment. The picture above is Briana and my grandma in the car on the way to lunch.

Here is Briana enjoying her food just a little bit...

And on a day that was rather chilly, Briana wanted to get ice cream. Go figure.

We needed to measure her to see if she was short enough for a free cone. Yep!

She got a cone with googly eyes...

My mom and Briana.

After ice cream, we headed to a little Catholic Church that is near where my grandmother lives. My grandmother is very religious and loves visiting this church. The church was locked, but there was a little playground across the parking lot and some beautiful benches to sit on right in front of the church.

Briana swinging...

Enjoying the slide. Yes - it was still COLD!

This place is really nice!

Gramma and Briana...

Briana and I taking a rest on a bench...

Briana saying a little prayer...

Me and my sweet girl...

My mom, Briana and my grandmother...

I will always treasure this wonderful day that we all had together.

Love the photo of your grandma and Briana. Their smiles say it all about what a great time they are having. It's a horrible disease and all you can do is live in those moments and make them the best they can be. It looks like you had a wonderful girls day out.

Briana is surrounded by so much love! Four generations of women in your family spending the afternoon together... I agree with Ani, that's "priceless!"
