Last week was week 2 of 4th grade. It was pretty good, but it wasn't as smooth sailing as week one. Academic wise it was fantastic, but socially it was a bit rough.
Briana wore her Mondays/Fridays shirt on Monday.
This is her Monday face...
This is her Friday face...
She turned in her first project on Monday. She had to decorate the front of her writing journal with things that she loves and write a journal entry explaining why three of the items on the front are important to her...
Monday evening, Bri went to her first official practice for her new soccer team...
Tuesday, she wore a new outfit Gramma got her for her birthday...
Wednesday was the first day of Venture. Bri said it went great..
She had to do a presentation in Venture on how she used multiple intelligences over the summer (her second project)...
Thursday, she wore another new shirt - this time it was from Aunt Ann...
Thursday was a rough day unfortunately. Bri came home and told me that the girl that became very close to her very quickly the first week of school had become enamored by another little girl, and Bri started feeling very a bit left out. Bri was pretty upset by it. We (Doug, Bri and I) all thought that Bri had it made because she made a friend so easily. I guess things just don't come that easy after all.
After Bri and I (and Doug too) did a LOT of talking and giving her some advice how to handle the situation (having a conversation with her friend about her feelings), B felt ready to tackle the it. She did have a really hard time getting to sleep Thursday evening due to nerves though. :(
With butterflies in her stomach but her chin up, Bri headed off to school on Friday. It was spirit day...
Bri did speak with her friend and worked the situation out with her (at least for now). B also took two tests and she said she thought she did well on both.
This was my FB status Friday afternoon...
"Thank you everyone for the prayers today. Bri went to school today a bit nervous but she dealt with her social drama and also took her tests. She came out of school this afternoon with a smile on her face and tackled what she needed to. I'm proud of her for facing it head on. I still wish Bri had a much more outgoing personality when it comes to school, but it's just not who she is ~ which makes her even braver for handling herself like a champ today."
I hope Briana is able to come out of her shell a bit more one day when it comes to school (and soccer) and making new friends. She is really more of a "one on one" type of kid when it comes to making new friends. Once she is your friend though, she is a great friend and a friend for life (unless you move away - heh). I just wish she wouldn't put all her eggs in one basket. She has to work on branching out more. She is a work in progress for sure.
