Picnic and Passport

Smiles at a Picnic

When Briana got home from Dylan's party on Saturday, she decided to set up a picnic for her doll "Briana". It really was quite a feast...

And Saturday, we finally received this for Briana...

We are not planning on leaving the country anytime soon, but this is something I have been wanting Briana to have for a long time. We finally applied for it right after Christmas. Finally, this is crossed of my "to do" list.

My Smart, Witty, Beautiful Girl

Briana

This is Briana at her friend Dylan's birthday party today. She, of course, had a fantastic time. I honestly can't think of a time when Briana didn't enjoy a birthday party.

I can't believe how fast she is growing up. She is all little girl now. I can really see it - especially when she interacts with her friends. I remember when I was so worried about her speech. Now, I can't get her to STOP talking. LOL!

Here are a few Briana-isms...

Today, Dylan's brother Jacob was trying to open the packaging of one of Dylan's birthday presents (without asking). Briana said to him, "That's DYLAN'S birthday present. That is for DYLAN." Snort...

Doug also loves to tell Briana how "crazy" I am - on a regular basis. Nice, huh? Definitely feeling the love. ;) The other day, I bent down to tie one of Briana's shoes and my knee cracked. Bri asked, "Mommy, what was that?" I told her that was my knee and that I was getting old. Later that afternoon, Doug once again was kidding around with Bri and told her that "Mommy is crazy." She said, "Mommy's not crazy, she's just getting old." She's too smart for her own good.

I had to take my kitty Asia to the vet on Friday, and Asia hates being in a carrier and hates being in the car even more. While I was checking out at the vet, Asia was crying in her carrier. Briana said in the cutest voice, "Don't worry kitty. We're leaving in just a minute."

Briana, Doug and I were all in the car last weekend, and Doug asked Briana how she was doing back there (in the car). She said, "I'm fine Daddy, I'm just picking boogies out of my nose." Lovely...

She is very polite. She asks, "May I have (insert item here), please." We have a Chick Fil A play date after gymnastics almost every Wednesday. She asks her friends, "May I have a pickle please." (She and her friends like to get sides of pickles and share them).

When I ask Briana to do something she doesn't want to, instead of saying "No", she says "Maybe not."

She is telling me now that she wants to be an animal doctor when she grows up. :)

She loves to tell people that she is three years old. And she can also tell people her full name now.

We've entered the "why" phase at full force. I can do very little now without my three year old asking "why" we are doing something.

This is really a fun age. I never know what she is going to say or do. I can't help but chuckle. She's just a hoot.

Winter Photo Shoot

Sitting On A Bench

Miss Sassy

The weather was so beautiful today, so I dressed up Bri and did a fun, short photo shoot. Seriously, I took a ton of photos to get just a few. Bri was interested in the shoot for a short while, but then she really wanted to ride her bike. :)

A Visit From Mickey and A Few More Snow Pics

Over the weekend, Briana had a little homework. Which ended up with me having some homework too. Briana's teacher Ms. Cindy allows the kids on weekends to bring home the "class pet" - which is a stuffed Mickey Mouse. This past weekend was Briana's weekend. I had to record all the the things in a journal that she and Mickey did over the weekend.

They had naps together...

And even went to Jumpits with Briana, Maisie and Emilija on Friday.

I did include in the journal that Briana brought Mickey to see "Shen Yun", though I opted to leave out the part that he is now a Fulan Dafa follower. ;)

And here are a few more snow pictures from my parents' house. They were just too cute not to post...

Is my girl a snow girl or what? :D

Black and White Wednesday

Hope you enjoy the photos I chose for Black and White Wednesday. I know they are more snow pictures, but these are really neat!

Go check out other black and white photos at this lovely lady's website!

Here are some snowflakes caught up close! These flakes landed on my mitten and I yelled to Doug to snap a shot...

And this shot is of Briana looking at the snowflakes in my hair. It's not dandruff - promise!!! LOL!!!

We've Been Crafting, Wrapping and Baking

We've been really busy the past couple of weeks doing all sorts of crafty things. My grandmother gave Briana this adorable paper bag puppet kit for Christmas. Bri loved making these puppets! And they were so easy. Just punch outs, stickers and glue - that's it! Briana needed my help, but it was a fun project for the both of us. I highly recommend this kit!

My grandmother also gave Briana a Build-A-Bear Mocha Bunny kit for Christmas. It says for ages six and up. I knew I would have to do the sewing on this one. So Briana watched while mommy got pretty frustrated and about threw Mocha Bunny across the room. How is a six year old supposed to sew this thing when this 30 something gal could barely do it? (No snarky comments please - LOL!) At least it turned out really cute (see below). Bri bedazzled the outfit.

Briana bought her first water color set with a gift card she got for Christmas. She loved painting Kai Lan and her friends...

And this was the first year Briana could really help in the preparation for Daddy's birthday. She helped me wrap his gifts. She was great at taping...

She also helped me bake his cake...

She was so proud of herself when she was done. See the M&Ms? She did ALL those by herself. Yep, that's a LOT of M&Ms. Can we say "sugar rush?"

So as you can see, we've been pretty busy around the house. I still have a few snow pics I want to post, but I'll have to do that another day.

Very Mixed Thoughts On "Shen Yun"

I am really shocked today to be reporting that I was not completely thrilled with "Shen Yun." I thought I would singing its praises today. Yes, it is BEAUTIFUL. Beyond visually stunning. The dancing and music and costumes - absolutely amazing.

But, there is a problem with it...

The problem is that there is a "Falun Dafa (Falun Gong)" agenda woven through the whole performance that is not revealed in any of the "Shen Yun Performing Arts" advertising. At all. They do give a little glimpse of their mission statement on their website, but there is nothing mentioned about "Falun Dafa". The only reason I understand so much about this movement now is because I have done some reading about it since last night. One of the things I've read about this movement is that the founder promotes racism and the hatred of homosexuals. I am also reading that there are many people out there that believe that Falun Dafa is a cult. And I found this website singing the praises of "Shen Yun." Obviously if we had known all of this, we may or may not have gone to the show. I'm not sure. Believe me, I have no problem with people expressing their beliefs. We live in a free country and you can believe and express what you want to. What I am upset about is the hidden agenda of this show. We were not given all the information regarding the show in the advertising so that Doug and I were able to make a completely informed decision whether to see this show with our daughter or not.

Doug and I brought our three year old child to this performance looking to share and enjoy traditional Chinese culture with her. I would say three-fourths of the show was mainly beautiful, traditional Chinese dance numbers. But, there were three songs sung during the show by opera singers and all the songs had a persecution-type tone to them (subtitles were being shown in English on the backdrop of the stage). And there were two dance performances that included people being persecuted by the Chinese government for practicing their beliefs (now I know Falun Dafa) - which included pretend kicking, hitting and even death. Yes, the death of a mother in front of her child for practicing her beliefs. (Oh - child was kicked and hit too.) Luckily, Briana is still too young to understand really what was going on.

So, if you decide to see this show - go with the knowledge that there is FAR more behind it than is let on. I am very, very disappointed today about all of this. That aside, the dance performances themselves were beautiful.
