The Rest Of Fall Break

We had an amazing fall break. I tried to plan a nice mix of rest and play. I think we might have tackled a bit too much, but Bri had a great week - I just need a longer recuperation period. ;)

While Doug, Bri and I enjoyed our vacation, poor Asia was boarded at the vet. I didn't want her home alone with her cone on. The vet staff took really good care of her and put my mind at ease. I know she rather to be home though. You can see her in her little hotel room on the top row...

I examined her incision when I got home and realized she was finally ready for cone removal...

She was SO happy. I know she doesn't look happy, but the purrs coming from this cat were off the charts. Those last few days of her wearing the cone were completely worth it. She healed perfectly...

Briana did have PSR class (Catholic school) on Wednesday night, so I took her there - but that is all we did on Wednesday.

Thursday, Bri and I met Joanne, Emily and Jake at Chick Fil A. The girls love playing together and played for hours. The play date then spilled over to Joanne's house. It was definitely a marathon play date! It had been a long while since Joanne and I got to catch up, so it was a great play date for the moms too. :)

Here are our pretty girls...

Friday was a "stay in jammies for most of the day and do crafts" day. Bri and I finished this foam craft Friday afternoon. We actually started it right before I got my week long virus, so I finally was able to help her finish it. It was NOT an easy task. There are a lot of little bits and pieces in this kit...

Bri has also gotten on a "make things out of duct tape" kick...

I finally made Bri get out of her jammies because we headed to the North Georgia State Fair Friday night...

I will do a separate post on the fair, but of course, she loved it...

Saturday, I warmed up some caramel to make some caramel apples. We used apples that we picked on Monday...

The weather was gorgeous Saturday night, so we headed to a restaurant where we could eat outside...

I was craving some more fried green tomatoes...

Doug went for oysters and soft shell crab...

Bri had chicken fingers and got to draw on the table...

Sunday, Bri and I went with friends Angela and Laney to see a spectacular Chinese dance performance put on by the Atlanta Chinese Dance Company (I will do a separate post on this as well). It was so unbelievably beautiful - the dancing, art and costumes. I am so grateful that my daughter brought this amazing culture into my life...

It was a great week. I am tired now though. We had a pretty busy break. I am looking forward to getting back into our regular routine again.

Look for my posts on the fair and the performance. Coming soon!

Fall Break Vacation - Day 4 - Apple Picking and Ellijay

Finally, the last day of our trip was upon us. We packed up everything and checked out of the lodge...

But before heading home, we stopped to do some apple picking in Ellijay. You might remember us also doing this last year...

Love the little store...

Right behind the store, you can pick your own apples...

Bri LOVES apple picking...

The morning was overcast and cool and rain was forecast for the afternoon. We timed everything perfectly...

Briana's favorite part of apple picking is riding on Doug's shoulders, picking apples and having them "accidentally" bonk him on the head. She is belly laughing here...

Since we always go during the week, we don't get the bells and whistles of weekend picking - which includes the petting zoo and hayrides. But, we did get to see the animals up close anyway...

Briana trying to get on Doug's shoulders again...

Pick, pick, pick...

Some cold cider...

Chilling with Daddy...

After picking, we went into the town of Ellijay to eat lunch and look around the stores. I was a bit disappointed because a few of our favorite stores, including the Christmas store, have closed for good. There wasn't a lot to see in the town this time. We did have a delicious lunch though. These fried green tomatoes were amazing...

We did walk through one large antique store that I love, but that was it. It was just starting to rain and it was time to head home. Our trip was short and sweet, but we managed to see a lot in just three full days. Doug had to get back to work, and Bri and I figured out how to keep busy the rest of fall break. I think we did pretty well. More on that later. ;)
