A Catch Up Post (Friendship, Food, Clothes, Reading, TV, Schoolwork and Upcoming Middle School)

Wow - I haven't blogged in 12 days. I've been busy with life I guess.

Life is going to get even more super busy over the next few months due to lots of birthdays, soccer games and Bri's finishing up with elementary school.

So what's been going on?

Bri is looking super grown up lately. That's a bit crazy.

Briana spends a lot of time facetiming her friend Maisie and playing Minecraft with her. They love spending this time together. I wish we lived closer so the girls could see each other in person more often, but this is a good alternative...

A few weeks ago, I did finally bring Bri over to see Maisie to they could spend some quality time together in person (even if they were still online. ;-D ) I also got to catch up with my friend Lisa, so that is always nice too...

When we left Maisie's house, Bri and I realized we were getting hungry. We stopped at a little Italian restaurant for dinner that I used to enjoy going to when I used to live in that area...

She and I split a bowl of pasta and had a girl's dinner date...

One weekend evening, Doug, Bri and I had a nice dinner...

Then we took Bri to the bookstore. She LOVES the bookstore. My kid loves to read. My kid that hated to read just a few years ago now reads at a 7th grade level. Truly blessed...

She and I watched "Sing" together one night. I missed seeing it with Doug and Bri back in December when I was sick, so we bought it and I got to watch it. What a fantastic movie...

And Bri and I watched the Kid's Choice Awards together one evening too. I may sound very old, but the music that was performed that night on the show was horrible. Just horrible. I honestly don't think Bri was impressed by the music either, but she liked the rest of the show...

Bri had spring pictures taken at school a couple of weeks ago. She of course had running club in the afternoon that day, so she had a pretty blouse on top and running club gear on the bottom...

Doug saw this awesome soccer shirt at Dick's Sporting Goods and just had to buy it for Bri. She loves it...

Bri wore green for St. Patrick's Day...

Bri had her 6 month dental checkup last week - no cavities and no problems at all. We stopped for some pizza after to celebrate...

Miss B had an oral presentation to do for her 4H class at school last week. Pandas were her subject (no surprise there!). She did an amazing job...

She got in front of everyone and spoke slowly and clearly. So proud...

It was funny that all the kids in the class were explaining to the 4H teacher (she only comes once a month to school) how obsessed Bri is with pandas. I guess B makes it pretty well known. ;)

I finally broke down and downloaded snapchat on my phone. Bri and I have had some fun playing with it...

And yesterday, I went to Bri's final conference in elementary school. She did a bit of a sad face for me for this pic...

She is doing amazing, so that is always good news.

I'm a bit nervous about middle school for her of course - academically and socially. Bri's Venture teachers recommended that I sign Bri up for 4 advanced classes in middle school. I have heard the honors classes are pretty tough, and we all know Bri loves to study - not. I just had an issue with her being a bit lazy on a writing assignment.

I referred to this assignment as the "very, very, very" paper. She had to write a paragraph - at least six lines. She wrote five lines. And only two of the lines were really worth anything. It made me immediately think of a scene from the movie "Summer School" (the students had to write a 100 word essay; half their paper was filled with "verys")...

Doug felt the way she ended the paper was more like this...

She literally wrote that.

I obviously made Bri redo the paper. And it was "very, very, very" much better the second time around.

Bri is used to a lot of (not all though) things coming easy to her. So, academically she will really have to step it up in middle school being in these classes. I am nervous for her and I'm worried about my decision. Only time will tell. And as for the social part, I just hope she survives any "mean girl" situations she may come up against.

The spring soccer season finally started back up too...

Too much to talk about regarding soccer on this post, so more on that in my next post.

So that is my catch up. I'm bracing for the months of April and May. I have a feeling they will be doozies!

Asheville, NC - Day 4

Our last day in Asheville was quite rainy. I'm very glad we did all of our outside activities the two days before. I wanted to stop in Biltmore Village quickly before heading home...

We stopped in this beautiful Christmas shop...

And then we stopped in this bakery because we heard amazing things about it...

The eclairs and cookies were as big as your head...

If we hadn't had a later breakfast, I would have tried a few of these salads for lunch...

We bought a few sweet things to take home with us.

Then it was time to drive home...

We were sad to have to leave. We had such a nice time in Asheville. I will definitely visit again - either when the flowers are in bloom or around Christmastime.

Asheville is a great place to visit - I highly recommend!

Asheville, NC - Day 3, Part 2

Our next trek took us to Hickory Nut Falls (which is right next to Chimney Rock).

This was the entrance...

A bit of a climb...

Someone built this little rock pile...

Winter views but still pretty...

I was getting a bit tired, but we finally made it finally to the falls...

Beautiful views...

A kiss for dad...

Now I am going to go on a short rant. See the girl in the below photo? Doug, Bri and I were at the bottom of the falls for quite a while, and this girl never looked at the water once. This gorgeous waterfall was to her back and she was immersed with texting on her phone the entire time...

She was missing out on the beauty of this place. And her dad was sitting right there letting her do it. I don't believe she had any interest in even being there. Parents - please don't let your children miss out on all the beautiful things around them. There's more to life than a phone or computer screen. I keep trying to explain this to Bri (she loves her screen time and is seriously a video game junkie), and I made her look around and literally smell the flowers - or waterfall.

Ok - rant over.

Before we left, we hit a restroom in Chimney Rock Park. Yes - I know taking pictures in a bathroom is weird, but the paintings on the wall were so pretty...

We were all hungry after all that walking and fresh air, so we stopped in Chimney Rock Village for some lunch. We ate at the River Watch Grill...

The town was quite empty and we pretty much had the place to ourselves...

We did have a little company...

We sat out on the outside deck overlooking Broad River and there was a perfect view of Chimney Rock...

I had a hot dog and french fries - I'm pretty easy to please...

As we drove to Chimney Rock Park, we noticed we crossed over the Eastern Continental Divide. Since we had crossed the Great Continental Divide twice when we visited Colorado, we had to stop for a quick pic...

We had a very full day and headed back to the hotel for the evening. We had a room service snack for dinner and turned in. The next day was the day we were heading back home, but we had to do a little shopping first.
