Jekyll Island Vacation - Day 4

Day 4 of our Jekyll Island vacation was another fun beach day - July 4th. I was a little nervous when we hit the beach because there were some ominous clouds in the distance, but it never rained thank goodness...

Bri was so happy to be on the beach again that morning...

Off to play in the sand again...

What a gorgeous day...

Briana made a volcano...

Then she wanted to play in the waves. It was way choppier on Wednesday than it was on Monday...

After playing in the waves for quite a while, it was time for a quick dry off break...

The tide got really high that day. You could see the water coming closer, closer and closer to the beach goers. A few people had set up their areas closer to the water than us and they ended up moving because their spots started filling with water...

Doug and Bri enjoying the waves again...

Pretty choppy...

After playing for a number of hours on the beach, it was time to retreat to the room again. I spent a lot of time that afternoon chilling on the balcony...

The shells Bri and Doug collected...

Love watching the birds...

We did have a hiccup with a dog barking in a room a few doors down (it is a pet friendly hotel). The owners left and the dog was going berserk. The barking and scratching on the door lasted for quite a while and Doug finally called the desk to complain. Within minutes, the manager was at the door waiting for the hotel guest to return to his room (the hotel must have called him). The guest came up and the manager got on him and told him that continuous barking like that can't happen. Honestly, we had no issues with any of the other dogs at all. They were all quite behaved. This particular dog would get very upset when the owners would leave the room (we heard the dog for a short time the day before too). We never heard barking again after complaining.

We decided to grab a quick bite at the outdoor mall right next to the hotel for dinner...

There was a market in the mall that had groceries, restaurants and touristy things to buy...

One of those restaurants was Love Shack BBQ...

Dang the food was good...

After grabbing a bite, Bri and I did a little shopping...

We bought some souvenirs at the market and then we checked out another store...

After doing some shopping, Doug, B and I stopped and sat down on a bench to enjoy the weather. We actually ran into a family whose daughter played on Bri's soccer team in our neck of the woods. What a small world to be staying at the same hotel!

Another pretty view of the beach...

We debated on whether or not we should go to the other side of the island to see the St. Simon fireworks. We were so tired from playing at the beach that we decided to just stay in instead and watch TV for the evening. A Capital Fourth it was...

The Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy was still good, but the Beach Boys were struggling. I think it might be time for them to hang it up...

We all agreed that we made the right decision staying in. We were just too tired to venture out.

Our next day was another pool day.

Jekyll Island Vacation - Day 3

The third day of our Jekyll Island vacation (July 3) was all about the pool, eating, relaxing and fireworks. This day actually ended up being our "July 4th" since we saw fireworks that evening.

Doug took an early walk along the beach while Bri and I slept in a little...

He then went the pool to reserve some seats. With it being a holiday week, we knew it would probably get crowded...

Bri and I gathered all the pool necessities and ventured to the pool to meet up with him...

View of the beach behind where I was sitting...

Bri really enjoyed swimming...

Lunch by the pool...

Bri decided to sun herself and read a bit after lunch...

After several hours lounging by the pool, it started getting kind of crowded. Bri doesn't enjoy super crowded pools all that much, so we finally headed up to the room...

After resting in the room a bit and freshening up, we headed to nearby Zachry's restaurant for dinner (we took the hotel shuttle over again). What a quaint restaurant...

Festive for the holiday...

I ordered a shrimp salad sandwich - it was SO delish...

Doug went for the shrimp - the island specialty...

The desserts were amazing too...

After eating, we walked the grounds a little...

Great for a photo opp...

We met a local celebrity - "Lil Bit." He lives at the restaurant. He is so friendly...

We wandered over to the Jekyll Island Marina...

Then we wandered back to the restaurant to wait for the shuttle...

The fireworks on Jekyll Island were set for around 9PM on July 3. St. Simon's Island fireworks were scheduled for the next night. Since the islands are so close together, each island each took a different night. We walked to the beach behind our hotel and picked a spot on the sand...

The weather was very breezy, but it was beautiful...

The sun going down...

Then it was fireworks time. Amazing view...

The finale...

When the fireworks were over, we walked back into the hotel and went up to our room. So easy!

It really was a wonderful day.

Next up, the 4th of July...
