Briana on her last day of 6th grade!! Woo Hoo!!! We She made it!!!
The last time I blogged about school was around spring break. Well, now it is summer vacation! Yay! Bri is so stinking happy!
Spring break was actually a good thing for Briana because it got her rested up for the home stretch of school.
Milestones testing crept up couple of weeks after spring break, but Bri seemed to be ready for it...
She was tested in the areas of math, writing and reading. She said she felt pretty good about all of it. Not sure when we will get results from all that.
Often people think that when standardized testing is over (especially in public school) that the kids don't have to really "do" anything after that. I found that not to be true at all in middle school. Briana continued to learn a lot - and she still had tests and quizzes up until the last week of school.
Bri missed a little school when we headed down for our FL weekend, so when we got home, she had some catch up to do. Advanced classes are no joke. Even if you miss even one day, you can miss a lot! Unfortunately, we ended up skipping a soccer practice one evening due to having too much homework (which included make up work).
She hung in there and got through it all though...
Wiping her brow...
Here is Miss B looking especially cute going to school on two particular days...
What is great about nearing the end of the school year is the fun stuff you get to do.
Bri's Olympics (field day) was one of those fun things.
I purchased a shirt for Bri to wear on her field day...
A couple of weeks before, knowing her shirt would arrive soon, I pulled out my old field day shirt from sixth grade. I can't believe it kept it all these years.
My 6th grader tried it on...
It was surreal seeing her in that shirt!
Bri had a lot of fun on her Olympics day. Unfortunately, it rained all morning and events had to be played in the gym. It did stop raining and Bri said they got to spend about an hour outside.
Parents weren't invited to the Olympics, but I was able to snag a couple of pics. You can see the team colors (the teams were separated according to homerooms - English, Math, Science and Social Studies ~ Bri was in an English teacher's homeroom)...
Bri competing in one of the events (she is in the middle with glasses)...

She only signed up for three events and she wishes now she had signed up for more. There is always next year!
She did place second in one event (the "magic carpet slide") and she got a red bracelet...
Then one day yearbooks were handed out and the kids were given the afternoon to get their books signed by their friends and teachers. Bri really enjoyed that...
We started glancing through the book and saw that Bri was in one of the candid photos! She looks so studious...
She was also in the group photos for running club and the Red Wolves reading club.
The Friday before the last week of school, I received an invitation to the school awards ceremony. Bri was getting A/B honor roll!!
I was so proud of her...
6th grade was a huge adjustment for Bri. She was playing soccer but not very happy with it. The advanced classes in school moved very quickly for her. She had to be more independent this year, she had to dress out in PE, she had to visit a locker - and I found out that this was the biggest 6th grade the school had ever had. Talk about a lot of new faces. And this year was the first time Bri had actually received letter grades - I'm not kidding. All throughout elementary, students only received numbers (1-4) many different categories. There was no simple "A" or "95" in a particular subject in elementary school. So, everything was a new world for her.
And even though they move fast, Bri says she wants to continue to stick with advanced classes next year (Lord help us!)...
So when my super shy kid who isn't the biggest fan of school got on the A/B honor roll (she got 5 As and 2 Bs), you better believe I went to the ceremony with bells on!!
Doug was out of town on business that day, so I had to take lots of pics!
Bri peeking at me from her seat...
Bri's English teacher reading names...
Bri waiting for her name to be called...
Bri receiving two certificates...
The school's namesake came and spoke to the 6th graders...
Bri and her sweet friend Meredith (Meredith got straight As!)...
Bri and her certificates (she got A/B honor roll and the gold
RED wolves reading award)...
At the end of awards day, I walked outside and saw this double rainbow. A nice end to a big day...
Bri went to school on Thursday of the last week of school and she told me that half the 6th graders weren't there! (The awards ceremony was on Wednesday). I'm glad she went Thursday though because that was the day of the 8th grade walk and she got to clap for the graduating class.
Friday was supposed to be Bri's last day of school, but it was going to be a short day. Since she was only watching movies or playing games in classes and since so many kids were out on Thursday, Doug and I made an executive decision to let Thursday be Bri's last day of school.
So here she is on her first and last days of school...
We had wanted to take Bri to see the "Solo" movie on Friday afternoon, but when we went to reserve seats at the theater we wanted to visit, they didn't really have good seats available. So, we opted to go Saturday morning instead.
Here is our celebratory movie for the end of school!!!
So 6th grade is over. I had one of Bri's teachers and a close friend tell me that 7th grade will be EVEN HARDER than 6th. Much more will be expected of the kids. Yikes! I thought 6th was hard. Then I heard that once they are over that 7th grade hump, 8th gets a bit easier. I don't know. We will see. I'm hoping everyone is wrong about this 7th grade stuff! All I know is that summer is here and I'm not going to think about 7th grade just yet!
Happy Summer Ya'll!
