Oh my gosh ya'll, this was seriously a big project. We've been in our house for almost 15 years and our old carpet was getting beyond gross. No amount of steam cleaning was going to fix it this time. I knew for the longest time we needed to replace the carpet, but I had been sick on and off quite a bit the last few years and just couldn't commit to it. Finally I got fed up with the carpet so much, I knew it was time. Doug and I had to pack up the house like we were moving out and get it done.
Picking out carpet was SOOOO overwhelming. So many colors and patterns to choose from. I second guessed myself about a million times. We finally went with the one top row, second one over...
We had a guy all picked out to come out on Monday of Bri's fall break (last week in Sept) to install the carpet. Bri was scheduled to spend a few days at my parents' house while we got the carpet put in.
The Friday before the carpet went in, our carpet guy called Doug with an excuse saying he had to come out a day late. I wasn't happy, but we just wanted to get it done that week. By that Monday, he completely bailed on coming to our house at all that week. I was devastated and furious. My house was full of boxes and Doug had taken the week off of work. What a nightmare! Doug (with some help from friends) somehow managed to book another company to come out the next day and original carpet guy was fired. It was a total miracle to find another company to come out so quickly!!
The new guys came out and they were total rock stars. Five guys started quickly pulling out my old carpet and installing the new one...
Look at the difference (crappy carpet on top and new one on the bottom)...
My parents picked up Bri on Tuesday morning and she didn't return until Thursday evening. Poor Mei Mei had to deal with the loud, noisy men invading her house. We put her on our back porch, but she was still upset because the guys were going in and out of the house so much. I finally put her in her cat carrier and she was able to calm down...
The carpet installers got to my house at 8:30AM and were gone by 5PM. No joke. They did an amazing job and I am so happy with the carpet Doug and I picked...
Bri's room (we plan to change her wall color soon - time for tween update)...
While Doug and I were dealing with the carpet, Bri was enjoying her staycation with Gramma and Papa...
When Bri finally got back home, she was so excited. She did "carpet" angels in our new carpet...
We have hardwood floors in portions of our house, so all the furniture and boxes went in those rooms while the rooms with carpet were being worked on. There was a bit of juggling going on.
Holy cow - I knew my old carpet was bad, but I just didn't realize how bad it was getting until the new one went in. It's like walking on a cloud now! LOL! It was worth all the sweat and tears to get it done (it took weeks to slowly get everything packed up). I am still working on getting all the boxes unpacked now. This carpet change really forced me (and Doug) to purge so much and get organized. Hope we can keep it that way!
So, that is why I once again have been neglecting my blog. Life gets in the way sometimes!
I have posts coming up soon on apple picking, Autumn Moon Festival and a Briana school update. Be back soon!
