Chongqing, China

In doing a little research on Chongqing, I found out that Chongqing is not a province but a municipality. In 1997, the city become the fourth municipality, independent from Sichuan Province, to be under the direct control of the central government. Chongqing is the major port of the upper Yangzi River and the gateway to the famous “Three Gorges."

It is know as the "Mountain City" and is also know as one of the "four furnaces of China" with blazing hot summers (thanks Georgia for being the first to tell me that!). Oh yeah, we are going to be there in August. Trying not to hyperventilate here...

Here are a few pictures I found on the internet. I hope I will be able to travel to Briana's orphanage in Dianjiang.

Lisa- I read this book called "River Town." It's by Peter Hessler and it's about modern China in the Sichuan province. Thought you might be interested. It's fascinating.

Looks like a beautiful place. To prepare for the heat, you may want to turn off your central air from now until travel :).

Lily is also from one of the 4 furnaces and we were there in August/September and one day it was 115 degrees. Just a little sticky but I swear you wont notice cos you will be a Mama and that is the only thing that will ever occupy your brain ever again.

Do you really have to wait until August? I thought for sure you would be travelling in July. August seems soooooo far away!

Lisa,
I was there in July and it was by far the hottest place I have ever been. Its the humidity that gets you. It is a beautiful city though. Make sure you eat at a hot pot. We really enjoyed that and it is native to there. They also have a nice zoo with pandas.
