Last Thursday, Briana's teacher/class invited the parents to come and watch the kids celebrate "May Day." Now May Day actually lands on May 1st, but with a tight elementary school schedule, you kind of have to grab a free day when you can get it! So, May 9th it was!
Briana told me the class watched a video with girls dancing around a maypole and B said they were in flowing dresses. So, we picked a bright, flowing dress from Bri's closet. She looked quite floral and summery if you ask me...
Parents were greeted by signs...
The class was waiting for us...
I looked up and giggled when I saw this. Pink Baby made it to the wall in Bri's classroom...
Bri's teacher introduced the kids...
Each child recited a poem they memorized ~ it was finally Briana's turn to walk on the stage...
She did awesome...
Here is the video (Briana comes up at 1:40 ~ the video is kind of long, so you can fast forward to her if you like)...
Once all the kids recited their poems, it was time for the maypole...
Curtsy to your partner...
Dance with a partner...
And another one...
Here is some video...
After the dance (the kids did great!), we went back inside and the kids sold lemonade for 50 cents - and there were cookies too. Miss B was happy...
It was nice because Doug was able to go and my mom was able to join us too.
I am pleased with the experiences that Briana's teacher has given to the kids this year ~ the different cultures that she has exposed them too (including the CNY celebration). There were definitely hiccups with B's teacher this year, but overall, I still think Briana had a great year. She has learned a lot. A kid that really didn't enjoy reading is enjoying it now. That makes me so happy. Math, reading and writing are all very important to know, but I also believe that learning about the world around you is equally important. I'm glad B has had an opportunity to do that.
