I haven't updated the blog in about three weeks, so here I am finally. We had a lot that went on in June. I cannot believe it is July now. I am connected to so many people who celebrate their birthdays in June - including me - so it was busy.
Not too much has changed for me health-wise. I am still struggling quite a bit. I am working on myself, and I have a few doctor appointments coming up in July. Though I kept up with my therapies last month, I had no doctor appointments in June. I desperately needed a break from going to the doctor.
My birthday is on June 19th, but I started celebrating days before that and continued a bit after that too. I turned 52. Gah! I cannot believe I am in my 50s. My body reminds me every day that I am in my 50s, but my mind still doesn't truly believe it. And I swear, I celebrated my birthday for two weeks. I am so blessed with friends and family who wanted to spend time with me in June. I think I am officially celebrated out now!
On Father's Day weekend, Doug, Bri and I visited with my parents. I said it was strictly supposed to be a Father's Day get together, but my mom didn't listen to me. She got me a small cake and gave me a few birthday presents. It was very sweet...
Then on the night before my actual birthday, I met my besties Amy and Valerie for a joint birthday celebration for all of us at Huey Luey's (we all have birthdays in May and June). We laughed, exchanged gifts, and enjoyed really good food and margaritas. The wait staff came out and surprised us by singing happy birthday and giving us some free sopapillas for dessert...
My actual birthday rolled around and I spent the day with my best guy and best gal. Doug and I watched the new "Captain America" movie in our home theater. It has gotten dragged by critics and audiences a bit, but I actually really enjoyed it (there are a number of Marvel movies I enjoyed less)...
I got dressed up to go out to dinner with my hubby and daughter, but they gave me some presents first before we left. I requested a mini "Nothing But Bunt" cake for my special day. Doug shocked me by giving me a beautiful Louis Vuitton purse. Briana crocheted me an adorable bear with a rainbow on its tummy - it was in honor of the Care Bear I was given as a child (Cheer Bear). I actually still possess my 1980's Cheer Bear!

I asked Briana to take a few pictures of me and her together and of my new dress...
We went to Prime 120 for dinner. It was absolutely delicious. We dined on steaks, caesar salad, mac n cheese, mushrooms and dessert. I ordered a coconut cake (I didn't realize how huge it was going to be) and the waitress put a sparkler in it...
I had such a nice day.
The weekend after my birthday, my family gathered together at my parents' house - including my sister, BIL and nephews this time - to celebrate my sister's and nephew's birthdays. They were both celebrating milestone birthdays, so I took a step back and let them have the spotlight that day. But, my mom once again couldn't leave me out, so she got me a sparkly headband and a small gift to remember me on that day (it really wasn't necessary!)...
Briana is the oldest of the three cousins, but now she is the shortest!!
Fast forward a few days, I met my bestie Julie at McAlister's Deli and she treated me to a lovely birthday lunch. She bought me the perfect gift because she knows my life has been a bit difficult lately - heh...
And finally, Bri and I met besties Kelly and Meredith at Mellow Mushroom for another lovely birthday lunch. Kelly also bought me super sweet gifts and I appreciated them so much...
I realized after all the pictures I took for my birthday, I didn't take one of me and Doug around that time. I took a lot of pictures of us for our anniversary, so I am sure he is just fine with it - LOL!
There are a lot of other things we did in June, and I will recap all that in my next post.
Besides all the celebrations I had, I also received many birthday cards, calls, texts and social media messages wishing me a happy day and I am very grateful for all of them.
Well, I made it to 52. I thought a lot about my late friend Carole on my birthday. She passed at the age of 51, so I am now older than she was when she passed 10 years ago. I am still sad/mad that her life was cut short like that so suddenly. I don't feel ready to go yet (and I know she wasn't ready), though there are some days I feel like I am walking through the mud of life. Life is SO tough sometimes, but I will try to embrace the fact that I am allowed to still be here for some reason. I have to keep on swimming somehow.
Thanks for reading. I will be back soon for a June recap.
