Conference Week

This past week was school conference week! 

Below is Miss B posing in front of "herself" on Monday afternoon. The teacher drew around the kids bodies on pieces of paper and cut them out and the kids made "themselves."  

Bri accompanied Doug and me to the conference, and here she is armed with her iPad and earphones to keep herself busy while we all talked...
 

Briana's school conference went very well. In her grade level, the kids get rated by a number scale in a large number of areas (for example - "Producing complete sentences" or "Adds visuals and details when appropriate") and not by one general letter grade which encompasses a whole subject. I really like the system because I can really see where Briana is performing on task and where she is continuing to improve. Briana got a nice number of 3's (demonstrates mastery) and a few 2's (progressing toward mastery). A few items have not yet been assessed in the kids. Briana is very good in math, is super artistic and is quite a good reader and speller. She can be shy at times (mostly in large group settings), but she will raise her hand and answer questions when she is comfortable in a subject. She needs to work some on her phonics, punctuation and handwriting. (Her handwriting is actually quite pretty when she isn't trying to scurry through her work - ahem.) She is also doing very well socially.

Her teacher says she is a very smart (and busy) girl and is right on track! 

Doug and I started chatting with B's teacher about how Briana prefers other methods of getting from one place to another other than walking. Skipping being her preferred method. It is so funny to watch her. As the other kids slowly shuffle into school each morning, Briana skips happily into the doors and all the way down the hallway to her classroom. I chuckle every single morning that I get to watch her do it!

Since it was conference week, Briana got off school an hour early each day. It gave her and I some extra time to get homework done before her extracurricular activities and her play dates. I liked it in that regard. But gosh you don't realize how much you need that extra hour to get things done until you don't have it! 

Bri had two play dates during the week. One on Thursday afternoon in her playroom with her friend Emma...

And one playground play date Friday afternoon with her friend Emily. I can't believe I didn't take one picture of that play date. It was a gorgeous fall day too. Bad me!

On Thursday, Briana decided to wear her Eiffel Tower earrings to school. I think Paris is most definitely in her future... ;D

And Friday, she was all about bunnies. Bunny shirt and bunny hair clip. And she posed with one of her bunnies to get the point across...

Doesn't she look like she should be in "Home Alone" here?

That smile ~ she kills me with cuteness.

And of course, it was time for me to decorate the house for Halloween!

Friday night, Briana worked on a little Halloween project (and Mama helped a little)...

After a little frustration on my part, the house got done and it turned out super cute. The instructions say you can do all of this with white glue. Soooo not true. Finally, the super glue had to come out for a few little things. That spider on top wasn't staying up there with just white glue - just sayin'.

Briana is counting the days until Halloween. She is SO excited for Halloween to come. She is a total Halloween girl just like her mama. And Cousins N1 and N2 are coming to our neighborhood to walk around this year - which makes it extra exciting! :)
